A Taste of Madison

It seemed that every chicken wing in the Nashville area was devoured in less than three hours at “A Taste of Madison,” on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at Goodpasture Christian School.  The 14th annual event had attendance of over 1,000 people, the highest in over five years. Event sponsors Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, Odom’s Tennessee Pride, Electric Service Credit Union, Madison Funeral Home, and Rivergate Toyota credit the great turnout to the “economic stimulus” pre-sale ticket price of only $5.00 and a great array of restaurants and businesses.

“Krispy Kreme served over 800 donuts, Marble Slab Creamery served over 600 bowls of ice cream, and Chick-Fil-A ran out of chicken
nuggets three times!” said Debbie Pace, Executive Director of the MRACC.

Twenty food vendors participated, serving a ‘taste’ of everything from salsa to steak. Doug and Kim from 94.1 The Fish and Lelan Statom were in attendance as food booth judges. They awarded the following:

Las Maracas - Best Appetizer
Buffalo Wild Wings  - Best Booth Display
Krispy Kreme Donuts—Best Fun Food
Woody’s Steakhouse - Best Entrée
Olive Garden — Best Cold Entrée
Chick-Fil-A — Best Hot Entrée
Flour Girls - Best Food Presentation
Outback Steakhouse- Best Vegetable
Kickin' Coffee & Tea - Best Beverage
K & F Cafe - Best Fruit Dish
Piccadilly Cafeteria - Healthiest Choice
Flour Girls - Best Dessert
Richie’s - Best Side Dish
Buffalo Wild Wings - Best Spicy Food

The most coveted award of the night is the “People’s Choice” award, which is given to the restaurant that those in attendance liked best. This year’s winner was Woody’s Steakhouse, who served a sampling of steak and mashed potatoes.

Participating restaurants at the “Taste of Madison” were: Bar B Cutie, Buffalo Wild Wings, Center Point BBQ, Chick-Fil-A, Cookies by Design, Flour Girls, Hunter's Lane Culinary Class, K & F Cafe, Kickin' Coffee & Tea, Kroger Deli, Las Maracas, Marble Slab,Maybelle Carter, Madison Bowl, Olive Garden, Outback Steakhouse, Piccadilly Cafeteria, Richie’s, Ri'chard's Cafe, and Woody's Steakhouse.

In addition to food vendor, the event also showcased 24 area businesses in a “Business Fair” hosted by the Women in Business committee of the MRACC.  Fifty percent of the proceeds from the business booth fees are going towards funding a scholarship that will benefit deserving young ladies in the Madison-Rivergate community who are going directly from high school into the work force.

Participating businesses at the Business Fair were: AAA, Alive Hospice, Beauti Control, Bradshaw Collision,  Madison High Alumni, Middle TN School of Anesthesia, Electric Service Credit Union, Heels and Handbags, Madison Church of Christ, Maybelle Carter, Monkey Joe’s, National College of Business & Technology, Odom’s Tennessee Pride,  Party Lite, Power Family Chiropractic, Premier Designs, Personal Trainer Roger Martin, Precision Auto Care, Scentaments, Staples, State Farm, Suntrust Bank,   T-Mobile and US Bank.

A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales went to the Gil Drake Memorial Foundation, a scholarship program at Goodpasture Christian School, and A.C.T.I.O.N., a before and after school ministry of City Road Chapel United Methodist Church.
